ABOUT
Carlos González Velázquez, PhD, is an alumnus from the media psychology doctoral program at Fielding. His research focuses on narrative engagement. He developed the course Changing Hearts with Storytelling that he will be teaching in the Writers’ Program at UCLA Extension this coming winter. He has three published novels, the latest of which, Coffee, Shopping, Murder, Love, won the 2019 Red Hen Press’ Quill Prose award. The work he is presenting at the symposium is based on the research for his doctoral dissertation, The Motivational Effect of Compassion on Securing Narrative Engagement. He lives in Santa Monica with his husband.
