Media Psychology Programs

Fielding’s Media Psychology programs enable students to enter at their qualification, readiness and goal levels. The PhD in Media Psychology program provides a research-based program that informs practice in an evolving field of study. The Masters of Arts in Media Psychology is 100% online, applies psychological science to media and technology landscapes. Jerri Lynn Hogg is the Director of Fielding Graduate University’s Media Psychology program. She consults in the areas of cultural influence on human behavior and digital media; virtual communities and augmented reality; connection through social media communities; the psychology behind effective communication design; new and changing learning communities; and how to create solid user experience design. Passionate about social media, technology, and digital environments, Dr. Hogg researches and consults on how we communicate, connect, and find balance in changing environments. As a psychologist, she applies theory, practice, and research to humanizing the technological landscape and digital experience. Dr. Hogg is a media psychologist. Mark Smyth is the 50th President of the Psychological Society of Ireland. He is also a Chartered Senior Clinical Psychologist with a Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service. Mark has spent 17 years specializing in working with young people with mental health difficulties, young people in the care of the state and juvenile detention centres. He has a deep interest in anxiety, suicide and the psychology of social media, politics & policing. Mark is a member of the PSI Communications and Events group and is a frequent contributor in the media on mental health and psychology matters. Rachel Kowert, Ph.D is the research director of Take This. She has published and spoken on a range of topics relating to the uses and effects of digital games, including its impact on physical, social, and psychological well-being. She has published several books and scientific articles relating to the psychology of games and, more recently, the relationship between games and mental health specifically. Dr Linda K. Kaye is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Psychology at Edge Hill University. She is currently Chair of the British Psychological Society's Cyberpsychology Section. Her research is broadly in the area of cyberpsychology, on the psychology of digital gaming and online behaviour. Chris Ferguson is a professor of psychology at Stetson University. He has published numerous articles related to media effects ranging from video game violence to thin-ideal media, to sexualization in media. He is a fellow of the American Psychological Society and president elect of The Society of Media Psychology and Technology. He has authored several books on psychology including Moral Combat: Why the War on Violent Video Games is Wrong as well as How Madness Shaped History.
