Panel: Video Games during the Pandemic
July 16, 2020 @ 9:30 am – 10:15 am PDT
During the pandemic, many people, youth and adults alike, have turned to video games to get their social and autonomy needs met during this unusual time. This has led both to significant praise for video games but also some scholars renewed concerns about pathological gaming. For instance, the World Health Organization was part of an effort to encourage people to play video games even as they forge ahead with a “gaming disorder” diagnosis. Our panel of four experts with a moderator will consider topics related to how gaming fits into adjustment to social distancing and lockdowns and whether there are any concerns for parents or gaming individuals. Our panel will be informal, consisting of discussion between panelists with significant time maintained for Q&A from the audience.
